Technology projects are often framed as replacement projects.
A new website replaces the old website. A new CRM replaces existing spreadsheets. A new platform replaces specialist tools.
That is not always the right architecture.
A functioning payment gateway, PMS, accounting system, communication provider or specialist application may already perform its role effectively.
Replacing it can add migration risk without improving the customer or employee experience.
The better approach is often to identify the actual broken handoff and connect the systems around it.
Integration is not automatically better than replacement either.
The decision should depend on reliability, technical access, ownership, maintenance and whether the existing tool still serves the required job.
The principle is simple:
Keep what works. Improve what does not. Connect what needs to work together.
